By Disha Mashelkar
People in India are crazy for two ‘C’s One is Cinema and second is
Cricket! Indian cricket fans are known world- wide for their funny style
statements and their over-whelming love and passion for cricket. Today as India
took on Pakistan at Adelaide-Oval, a similar amount of Pakistani and Indian
fans were seen cheering for their respective teams. The
famous Sachin Tendulkar fan Sudhir was one of those lucky ‘Sachin Tendulkar fans’
to whom Sachin had personally called up in the dressing room and made him hold
the World Cup of 2011.
What makes Indian cricket fans go out there in the stadium
and cheer? Well, it’s the very passion and love for the game and the players
that drive them go past the seas all over world and support their team. These
fans make special home-made dishes for the players when they travel abroad.
They make them feel at home by holding placards of their names and giving them
moral support. Spectators travelled this
time to Australia too and a special mention will go to the ‘SWAMI ARMY’.
The Swami Army is an organized group of supporters of Indian
cricket team. Their aim is to help cricket fans worldwide watch Team India play
the game of cricket. The Swami Army was formed during India’s tour to Australia in
Season 2003/04 by a group of 10 die-hard Indian cricket supporters, using the
Swami Army moniker as a bit of fun while following their beloved Indian team
around Australia in that season. The number of their group members kept on
increasing as the time passed by reaching to the mark of nearly 5000 Indian cricket
fans!
As India wins today’s opening match against Pakistan there is a
burst of joy and crackers in every nook and corner of the Indian street. That’s
how every cricket fan would celebrate the Team India’s victory with happiness.
