India’s Fate at SCG

(India versus Australia)

By Disha Mashelkar

Today, India faces Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground in all new spirit. India, the defending champions has to prepare itself for the best of Australian attack who believe that ‘attack is the best defence!’ All over India different prayers have begun in the religious shrines and across the globe. India so far has been performing very well by winning all six group matches, winning their quarterfinal against Bangladesh and that is how the team India has made it to the semi-final.

Indian fans seem to be very optimistic of winning this semi-final after watching India’s consistent team performance. But not to forget the Australian bowling attack which is powered by Mitchell Johnson, Hazlewood, Mitchell Marsh and many more. At the same time the all-rounders they have are remarkable in their performance. Rohit Sharma has special memories on this SCG, as he along with Sachin Tendulkar in March 2008 where he helped Team India beat Australia in their first CB series final. In 2011 cricket world cup, India had faced Australia at Ahemdabad. India had won the match instead of Australia’s 260 runs target and a massive century by Ricky Pointing. This pitch of SCG is also known to favour the spinners. That is how Shane Warne was seen spending time with the Australian bowlers in the net practice session the previous day.

All the experience and all the history need to be put into practice against Australia. Team India need to be perfect in the beginning and hold the strings of the match in their hand to sail the boat smoothly. But now as the match has begun, Australia has won the toss and chose to bat. They have lost an important wicket of David Warner but Steve Smith (49 runs) with Aron Finch (32 runs) has been batting fine. The score now is 97/1 in 17.4 overs.
