When your pet bids the final goodbye…

It was month of June when I had first entered the premises of Ranade Institue. A black coloured Pomeranian dog caught my attention. He was lying in the college corridor and it was visible that, he was in a sleepy mood. I don’t have pets in my house and nor do my parents encourage to have one. Hence fear of dog bite was always there in my mind.

I was scared to pass from that corridor where ‘Whacky’ (Pomeranian dog’s name) was sleeping. I feared, he might bark at me as I was a stranger to him. I don’t remember how and when I fell in love with Whacky. Whether it was his style of escorting me and my friend as and when we entered the college campus or his innocent eyes; that kept me mesmerized. Whacky used to always come running with me during the lunch break. He used to love to feed on Chapati’s (Soft wheat flour baked bread) and Ramesh Bhaia’s( name of the college canteen owner) biscuits. He was an adorable pet of my institute. Some used to call him Whacko while some would call him ‘Kalu’ and few like me anointed him as Whacky. He was very mischievous dog but very loving too. He exactly knew when to come, to his master to get a pat on his furry back.

I remember, Whacky would love playing with our computer sir in the evening. Jumping and climbing on him always in his playful mood. He was the king for all pet loving girls and I was no exception to this. A few months before, Whacky was bitten and injured by other roadside dogs. This had caused him to limp as his one foot was badly hurt. Someone from college had informed a veterinary doctor to save Whacky from the unbearable bleeding pain. That time too, he was not ready to get the medicine on his feet; probably it caused a burning sensation on his feet which hurt him. Whacky, even after getting injured, managed to limp and protect the institute in his own style of barking at the strangers.

One sad day, I received the bad news of his death. It was heart-breaking! Seeing him directly on his funeral bed was heart-wrenching. Probably God needed him as he was more loving than any other human being on the campus.
Although, its one month passed his death, Whacky is still alive in my memories. Whenever I sit in the library I can see his grave through the window. It just hallucinate me as if Whacky is sitting next to my feet. (In his last days, due to injured feet Whacky used to sit in the library under the table in the morning and wouldn’t leave that spot). May your soul rest in peace Whacky! I know that those who loved you are feeling the pain of your loss but still can’t control to express to you that, I miss you Whacky!
